Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

I’d like to thank Gretchen @ chicnerdreads for tagging me! I ended up procrastinating pretty badly on this one because I hadn’t read nearly as many books as I’d hoped to by July (hence, this is being posted in August) but I’m going to try anyway! Here we go!

Best book you’ve read in 2016:

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

I absolutely adored this book! The characters, the worlds, the writing, it all blew me away.

Best sequel you’ve read in 2016:

The Raven King by Maggie Steifvater

I was expecting so much from this book and it delivered on nearly all fronts! I’m sad that the series is over, but I’ll definitely be re-reading all of the books in order when I get a chance.

New release you haven’t read, but want to:

The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace

30076808-2

I love the concept of this! “a poetry collection divided into four different parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen, & you.” I’ve heard only good things about it, so I’m excited to read it!

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne

This is absolutely cheating but I still can’t wait!

Biggest disappointment:

The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell

I talked about my disappointment in this book in my review. Basically, good ideas weren’t delivered well. *sad face*

Biggest surprise:

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley

A few weeks ago, I would have counted this book as my favourite read so far this year! It was such a pleasant surprise.

Favourite new author (debut or new to you):

V.E. Schwab (new to me!) – I don’t know how I’ve gone so long without this author’s writing! I can’t wait to read her other books, and I’m especially looking forward to reading A Gathering of Shadows!

Newest fictional crush:

Julian Blackthorn (Lady Midnight)

03e9b64c855e23c0724447f8aae445b1

Complicated and controversial family man/artist with a penchant for falling in love with the wrong person? *swoons*

Newest favourite character:

No!? I can’t pick just one!

Delilah-9743

Lila Bard (A Darker Shade of Magic)

Jason Kerwin (Magonia)

Henry Cheng (The Raven King)

Book that made you cry:

The Raven King by Maggie Steifvater

I was a mess while I was reading this book. I’m pretty sure my family was worried about my well being.

Book that made you happy:

No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay

Such a lovely book, written by a lovely author!

Favourite book to film adaptation:

I haven’t had one yet this year, but I’m anticipating the BFG being good.

Favourite post you have done this year:

I’m really proud of the ‘4 Modern Narratives‘ litstyle I did a few weeks ago! Innovative narrative is one of my areas of study for school, so I was excited to include that in a post on my blog!

Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year:

A Darker Shade final for Irene

I haven’t bought it yet, but I have every intention to!

What book do you need to read by the end of the year:

Too many!

I tag anyone who hasn’t done this yet! I know I’m awfully late in doing this, so everyone’s probably done it already. Ah, well.

I'm Emma Kath. Welcome to my blog! This is where I post my original book reviews, litstyle (lifestyle for the lit-nerd), and other bookish things. A little about me: I'm Canadian, and currently a student majoring in English lit and cultural studies. I'm an introvert (INFJ, if you believe in that sort of thing), sarcastic to the bone, I love art and history, and hope to one day travel around a bit. Until then, I'll be reading, writing, and trying to spread a little kindness around the internet. If you have any questions or inquiries, feel free to contact me!

  2. I love Victoria Schwab. I also need to read A Darker Shade of Magic, and the Raven Cycle series! The BFG seriously looks amazing, and I can’t wait to watch it as well! Great job with the tag 🙂
